spew (を吹き出す、吐く)

convulsively (発作的に、急激に)

hem (へり、縁)

 leer (横目でやらしい目つきで見る)

 patch (部分、斑点、当て布)

affront (を侮辱する)

lay it on thick (大げさに言う)

Sally was laying it on thick when she said that Tom was the best singer she had ever heard.

トムが今まで聴いた中で一番の歌手だと言っていたときにサリーは誇張していた。

 

egg (を扇動する、励ます)

The racing fans egged their favorites on.

競馬（競争）のファンは自分のお気に入りをせかした。（励ました。）

 

drape (をゆったりたらして掛ける、だらりともたせかける)

drape one's arm over a balcony
